Seventh Meeting Of Aerodrome Safety Planning And Implementation Group Commences In Riyadh
The Seventh Meeting of the Aerodrome Safety, Planning and Implementation Group (ASPIG/7) began in Riyadh and will run until April 10. Organised by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Regional Office in Cairo, it includes representatives from member states and international bodies like Airports Council International (ACI), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA).
In his opening address, Captain Sulaiman Almuhaimedi, GACA's Executive Vice President for Aviation Safety and Environmental Sustainability, welcomed attendees. He expressed hope that the meeting would facilitate sharing best practices in air navigation and civil aviation safety. Almuhaimedi emphasised the importance of leveraging expertise to establish high aviation safety standards and raise awareness about developments in the Air Navigation and Aviation Safety Group.

Almuhaimedi highlighted Saudi Arabia's significant transformation in civil aviation, which is crucial to its future vision. The sector is a key component of the National Aviation Strategy. He stated that Saudi investments extend beyond infrastructure to include systems, personnel, and partnerships essential for a safe, sustainable, globally connected aviation sector.
The five-day event aims to delve into technical aspects of airport operations. It seeks to develop airport safety policies and standards while exchanging expertise. Participants will analyse challenges and explore opportunities available within the sector.
Hosting this meeting underscores Saudi Arabia's active role through GACA in enhancing aviation safety standards regionally and internationally. The Kingdom is committed to ensuring sustainability within the aviation industry at both levels.
"The Kingdom is undergoing a remarkable transformation in the civil aviation sector," Almuhaimedi noted. He added that this transformation plays a central role in Saudi Arabia's future vision.
