Enhancing Accessibility: Services For Elderly And Persons With Disabilities At The Prophet's Mosque
The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque is committed to improving services at the Prophet’s Mosque. This effort focuses on ensuring comfort and accessibility for all visitors, especially the elderly and those with disabilities. Modern facilities and dedicated prayer areas have been introduced to make worship easier.
To accommodate these groups, 12 prayer areas inside the mosque and four in the courtyards are reserved exclusively for them. These designated spaces help manage crowd flow during entry and exit times. Additionally, a special prayer area for the deaf community has been established, where sermons are translated into sign language.

The authority provides electric golf carts and wheelchairs at no cost to enhance mobility within the mosque. These are available at four locations: near Exit 343 on the northern side, opposite Exit 326 in the new western courtyards, and at integrated service centers near Exit 329 on the northern side and Exit 301 on the southern side.
For wheelchair users, ramps have been installed at various gates to ensure smooth movement. Special holders for drinking containers have also been placed at accessible heights, making it easier to access Zamzam water. This initiative ensures that all visitors can move around comfortably.
The mosque features 180 elevators and 156 escalators in its courtyards and facilities. Inside the mosque itself, there are an additional 24 elevators. These installations aim to facilitate easy movement throughout the premises for everyone, including those with mobility challenges.
Moreover, there are 62 specially designed toilets available throughout the mosque's premises. These facilities cater specifically to the needs of elderly visitors and persons with disabilities, ensuring their comfort during their visit.
Dedicated entrances at Gates 5 and 6 on the western roof support this inclusive approach by providing easy access for all visitors. The authority's efforts reflect a commitment to creating an environment where everyone can worship without barriers.
