Senegal Celebrates Arab Culture With The Third Arab Poetry Forum
The third Arab Poetry Forum took place in Senegal, organised by the Department of Culture in Sharjah and the Senegal Literary Club. Thirteen poets participated in this event, which was held under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This forum is part of the Poetry Forums Initiative in Africa.
The forum occurred in Dakar, with Dr. Fadel Ghay, President of the Senegal Literary Club, and representatives from Senegalese cultural institutions attending. Poets and writers also graced the event. Mohammed Al Hadi Sal, the forum's coordinator, expressed gratitude to the Ruler of Sharjah for his unwavering support for Arab culture and poetry.
Dr. Ghay highlighted the significance of fostering cultural connections between the Arab world and Africa through such events. He stated that these gatherings facilitate the exchange of ideas and creativity. According to him, the Arab Poetry Forum in Senegal stands out as a crucial event among other cultural and literary celebrations in the country.

The forum featured poetry sessions led by Senegalese poet Abdul Kareem Ghaay. Additionally, a critical seminar titled "Senegalese Arab Literature (Poetry and Novel) Between Reality and Hope" was conducted. This seminar delved into the evolution of Arab literature in Senegal and its future outlook.
The seminar also addressed obstacles faced by Senegalese writers and discussed ways to improve their works' dissemination. Enhancing the presence of Senegalese Arab literature locally and internationally was another focal point.
Various readings during the forum covered themes like identity, belonging, and cultural coexistence. These sessions provided a platform for poets to express their thoughts on these significant topics.
"The Arab Poetry Forum in Senegal has become a vital platform for the creativity of Senegalese poets," said Mohammed Al Hadi Sal.
This year's edition underscored its role as an essential venue for celebrating Arab poetry while bringing together poets and intellectuals from across Senegal.
The forum's success highlights its importance in promoting cultural dialogue between regions, fostering mutual understanding through literature.
