SelfDrive Mobility Launches Rent-to-Own Service In The UAE For Flexible Car Ownership

SelfDrive Mobility has introduced a 'Rent to Own' service in the UAE, revolutionising the way customers can transition from renting vehicles to owning them, offering a hassle-free pathway to car ownership, devoid of any hidden charges, interest, or cumbersome paperwork. Customers now have the liberty to either return the vehicle or make it their own before the contract period concludes, bringing a new level of flexibility to the automotive market.

This service caters to the evolving mobility needs of the UAE's residents, providing them with a unique opportunity to drive a car for a month before making a decision to buy it. This model is particularly appealing as it allows users to upgrade from a monthly rental to a Rent-to-Own plan on selected car models, further enhancing the customer experience.

SelfDrive Mobility Launches UAE Rent-to-Own Service

One of the standout features of SelfDrive Mobility's Rent-to-Own service is that it leaves the customer's credit history untouched. The fleet on offer includes vehicles that are maintained by dealers and come with an all-inclusive price tag covering insurance, replacements, servicing, and maintenance.

This initiative offers a transparent, interest-free approach to car ownership, distinguished by the absence of non-refundable payments except for the initial down payment, which confirms the customer's commitment while maintaining flexibility.

SelfDrive's introduction of a Rent-to-Own calculator on their website further aids customers in making well-informed decisions by comparing long-term rental costs against the benefits of ownership, including bundled services like insurance and maintenance.

A significant portion of the UAE's population comprises expatriates, who often find traditional car ownership models incompatible with their lifestyles and work arrangements. With the country housing over 10 million residents, 85% of whom are expatriates, there's a growing demand for flexible mobility solutions. The rise of freelancing, short-term contracts, and flexible employment underscores the necessity for innovative car ownership options.

The UAE is witnessing a shift towards premium and sustainable mobility solutions, as evidenced by the 43 per cent surge in commercial vehicle registrations in 2024 compared to the previous year. Rental fleets have expanded significantly, and there's been a notable increase in high-end rentals and electric vehicles (EVs), according to data from Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). SelfDrive Mobility's Rent-to-Own service is a direct response to these trends, offering a blend of rental convenience and purchase security.

Soham Shah, Founder and CEO of SelfDrive Mobility, highlights the dynamic nature of the UAE's mobility landscape, stating, "The UAE's mobility landscape is rapidly changing. More than three million people in the UAE work in freelance or contracted roles, according to recent government employment statistics. These professionals need transportation solutions tailored to their unique requirements. 'Rent to own' provides customer control, clarity, and flexibility, with no hidden surprises."

The Rent-to-Own service also addresses the challenges younger demographics and new residents face in accessing car ownership. With nearly 60% of UAE residents aged between 25-40 seeking flexible mobility options, this service eliminates the barriers posed by traditional financing methods. The UAE Central Bank reports that over 40% of personal car loan applications were declined in the past two years, underscoring the need for alternative ownership models.

Currently exclusive to the UAE, with plans for regional expansion, SelfDrive is paving the way for more inclusive, technology-driven urban mobility solutions. This aligns with the UAE's vision of accessible urban mobility for all, democratising car ownership for a wider audience and catering to the country's diverse population's varied mobility needs.
