Saudi, Chinese, And Iranian Officials Convene In Riyadh To Advance Beijing Agreement Implementation

The second meeting of the Saudi-Chinese-Iranian Joint Tripartite Committee took place in Riyadh. It was led by Waleed A. Elkhereiji, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia. The Chinese delegation was headed by Deng Li, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, while Majid Takht Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of Iran, led the Iranian delegation.

The Saudi and Iranian representatives reiterated their dedication to fully implementing the Beijing Agreement. They aim to strengthen neighbourly ties by adhering to international laws and respecting state sovereignty and independence. Both nations appreciate China's ongoing positive role and its support in executing the agreement.

The three countries acknowledged the progress in Saudi-Iranian relations, highlighting the benefits of direct communication at various levels. They stressed the importance of these interactions amid regional tensions that threaten global security. High-level meetings and mutual visits are seen as crucial during these times.

Consular services between Saudi Arabia and Iran have improved significantly. This enabled over 87,000 Iranian pilgrims to perform Hajj and more than 52,000 Iranians to undertake Umrah safely within the first ten months of 2024. Such developments were welcomed by all parties involved.

Saudi Arabia and Iran expressed their willingness to sign a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA). The first meeting of the Saudi-Iranian joint Media Committee was held, resulting in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between diplomatic institutes from both countries. These steps signify a commitment to expanding cooperation.

The three nations are eager to enhance collaboration across various sectors, including economic and political fields. They collectively condemned Israeli aggression in Palestine and Lebanon, urging an immediate halt to such actions. The violation of Iran's sovereignty by Israel was also denounced.

Regional Security Concerns

The committee called for uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Palestine and Lebanon. They warned that ongoing violence poses a significant threat to regional and global security, including maritime safety. The need for peace is urgent given these escalating tensions.

Support for a comprehensive political solution in Yemen remains strong among the three countries. They advocate for resolutions based on internationally recognized principles under United Nations guidance, emphasizing stability in Yemen as crucial for regional peace.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued dialogue among Saudi Arabia, China, and Iran. Their collaborative efforts aim to foster peace and stability in a region facing numerous challenges. The commitment shown by these nations is vital for future progress.
