The Diriyah Biennale Foundation recently wrapped up the second Islamic Arts Biennale at Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport. This event, held from January 25 to May 25, was titled "And All That Is In Between." It reinforced the biennale’s status as a leading global stage for Islamic art. The exhibition spanned over 100,000 square meters and featured more than 500 historical and contemporary artworks.

For the first time outside Makkah, the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba was displayed, alongside rare Islamic artifacts from Makkah and Madinah. This historic milestone added significant cultural value to the event. The biennale also launched "Turuq: The Many Ways of Food," celebrating culinary diversity and history. Additionally, it hosted the inaugural "MADE" exhibition, showcasing international designers' work linked to Islamic arts heritage.

Islamic Arts Biennale Concludes in Jeddah

This year’s biennale saw participation from over 30 art and cultural institutions across 21 countries. More than 30 contemporary artists presented 29 new works commissioned by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation. These contributions offered visitors a unique exploration of faith, history, and material heritage through diverse artistic expressions.

Aya Al-Bakree, CEO of the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, expressed that this edition exceeded expectations in scale and impact. She highlighted that global cultural institutions' involvement and artists' contributions were pivotal in showcasing Islamic arts' richness and diversity. "The second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale surpassed expectations in both scale and impact," she stated.

The biennale significantly enriched Jeddah's cultural landscape with its diverse offerings. The event's expansion built on the success of its inaugural edition in 2023. By featuring a wide array of historical artifacts and contemporary pieces across five main galleries and outdoor spaces, it provided an immersive experience into Islamic art's multifaceted nature.

The biennale not only celebrated artistic achievements but also fostered a deeper understanding of Islamic culture through its thoughtfully curated exhibitions. This approach allowed attendees to engage with both traditional and modern interpretations of Islamic art, enhancing their appreciation for its enduring legacy.

Overall, the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale successfully highlighted the depth and breadth of Islamic arts while fostering international collaboration among artists and institutions. Its diverse range of exhibits offered a comprehensive view into the rich tapestry of faith, history, and material culture inherent in Islamic art.
