SDRPY Sponsored Aden Volleyball Championship Advances Yemeni Youth Development And Sports
The governorates volleyball championship supported by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen is underway in Aden from Ramadan 12 to 16, 1447 AH. The event brings together five governorates, with backing from Saudi Arabia, to encourage organised sports activity and expand competitive opportunities for Yemeni youth in a structured, supervised environment.
The tournament takes place under the patronage of Minister of Youth and Sports Nayef Saleh Al-Bakri and Minister of State and Aden Governor Abdulrahman Sheikh. Matches are supervised by the Yemeni Ministry of Youth and Sports and organised by the Yemen Volleyball Federation, reflecting formal institutional support for volleyball and wider athletic participation across the governorates.

The championship is part of SDRPY efforts to revive sports, empower youth, and improve conditions for training and competition. The program supports federations, clubs, and national teams so that young people can practice sport in safe and encouraging venues. These efforts align with wider development work funded by Saudi Arabia in Yemen’s governorates.
Five teams from Aden, Taiz, Abyan, Lahij, and Al-Dhalea are competing in the SDRPY volleyball championship. Each side includes 17 people, covering players, coaches, administrators, and technical staff. More than 250 individuals benefit directly, including organisers and media workers, showing the event’s role in community engagement and sports-based social activity.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through SDRPY, is a key supporter of youth and sports in Yemen. The program sponsors tournaments, rehabilitates sports facilities, builds stadiums, and offers technical support while sharing expertise. These projects aim to raise the capabilities of Yemeni youth and help prepare a stronger generation of athletes over the coming years.
Developing youth skills and improving their sports abilities is a major strand of SDRPY work. The program has set up more than 30 sports fields for different games in model schools across Yemeni governorates. These facilities encourage regular exercise, healthier lifestyles, and help young talents strengthen performance and progress towards higher-level competition.
Beyond the SDRPY volleyball championship, the program has delivered 268 development projects and initiatives across Yemen. Work covers eight main sectors: education, health, water, energy, transport, agriculture and fisheries, support for Yemeni government capacities, and development programs. These activities are spread across several governorates and contribute to long-term stability and better prospects for Yemeni youth.
