SDRPY Enhances Healthcare In Marib With First MRI System And Advanced Diagnostic Facilities
The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has initiated a significant medical project at the Marib General Hospital Authority. This development aims to enhance patient care and diagnostic services in Marib Governorate and nearby areas. The project includes equipping the hospital's Radiology and MRI Department with cutting-edge medical technologies, notably installing the first MRI machine in Marib, which is only the third in Yemen.
Director of the Marib General Hospital Authority, Dr. Abdul Karim Hamid, highlighted the critical role of the new Radiology Department. He stated that radiological diagnostics are crucial for identifying diseases and assessing injury severity, especially in emergencies involving brain trauma and head injuries. The hospital currently serves 57,941 direct and indirect beneficiaries, showcasing the initiative's extensive impact on thousands of patients' lives.

The project went beyond merely providing equipment by undertaking thorough site preparation. This included construction work, electrical installations, air conditioning systems, isolation rooms for the MRI unit, waiting areas for patients and companions, and dedicated rooms for patient preparation. Additionally, technical staff received training to operate the MRI system effectively to ensure high-quality diagnostic services.
This initiative has already made a notable difference by enhancing diagnosis accuracy and speed while reducing the need to transfer patients to other cities for advanced imaging. The availability of these services locally is expected to significantly improve healthcare outcomes in the region.
This project is part of SDRPY's broader efforts, which encompass 265 development projects across eight key sectors: health, education, energy, transportation, water, agriculture and fisheries, institutional capacity building for the Yemeni government, and comprehensive development programs in various Yemeni governorates.
The introduction of advanced medical technology at Marib General Hospital marks a major advancement in healthcare accessibility within the region. By providing essential diagnostic tools locally, it reduces dependency on distant facilities and enhances patient care quality.
