SDRPY Partners With Yemen To Implement Strategic Power Projects For Sustainable Development

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Yemen’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy and Gulf Power International (GPI). This agreement focuses on implementing power projects in Yemen. The signing was attended by Yemeni Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Braik and Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber.

The MoU outlines collaboration among the three parties to develop strategic power facilities in Aden, Mukalla, Seiyun, and Taiz. The initial phase aims for a production capacity of 300 megawatts. This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's commitment to support the Yemeni government and enhance development in crucial sectors.

SDRPY and Yemen Collaborate on Power Projects

This agreement aligns with efforts to improve daily life across Yemeni governorates and promote sustainable growth. It reflects the Yemeni prime minister’s emphasis on strengthening essential services through bilateral cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Yemen in various fields. The MoU aims to boost infrastructure, serve local communities, and elevate service quality for the Yemeni people as part of ongoing economic reforms.

Standards for training, sustainability, and implementation according to quality benchmarks are included in the MoU. SDRPY's initiatives have increased electricity production capacity in multiple governorates. This has enhanced the Yemeni government’s ability to provide educational, health, and other essential services while expanding renewable energy use.

To date, SDRPY's efforts have benefited over 12 million people through various projects. One significant contribution is the Saudi Oil Derivatives Grant, which has supported 80 power generation stations across Yemen. These initiatives are crucial for bolstering infrastructure and improving living conditions in the region.

The agreement underscores a shared vision between Saudi Arabia and Yemen to foster development through strategic partnerships. By focusing on key sectors like electricity, both nations aim to create sustainable growth opportunities that benefit local communities.
