SDRPY Completes 91 Kilometres Of Al Abr Road Expansion And Rehabilitation Project In Yemen

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has successfully completed the second phase of the Al Abr Road expansion and rehabilitation project. This phase extends 40 kilometers from Al-Duwaibi to Ghuwariban. The first phase, which spanned 50 kilometers from Al-Duwaibi to Al Abr in Hadhramaut, was finished in May 2024. Together, these phases cover a total of 91 kilometers.

Al Abr Road is a crucial transportation link in Yemen, connecting the governorates of Marib, Hadhramaut, and Shabwa. It also serves as an essential route between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The road's expansion is expected to significantly enhance economic and social development by improving access to markets and facilitating the movement of people and goods.

Completion of Al Abr Road Expansion Project

In addition to the road project, SDRPY is working on rehabilitating the Al-Wadiah Border Crossing. This crossing is one of the most important land entry points between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. The rehabilitation includes constructing new buildings, upgrading existing structures, and enhancing infrastructure such as roads and open spaces.

The improvements at Al-Wadiah aim to boost services for travelers while strengthening economic ties between the two nations. Enhanced surveillance systems and better water and power sources are also part of this comprehensive upgrade.

The projects undertaken by SDRPY are pivotal in stimulating commercial activities along Al Abr Road and its surrounding areas. By improving infrastructure, these initiatives support economic growth, create job opportunities, and enhance trade between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

SDRPY's efforts extend beyond roads; they include 31 development projects aimed at boosting Yemen's transportation sector. These projects involve airport rehabilitation, increasing port capacities, and improving border crossing efficiencies.

Comprehensive Development Initiatives

The program's initiatives also focus on rehabilitating around 150 kilometers of vital roads across various Yemeni governorates. These efforts represent a significant contribution to Yemen's economy by facilitating smoother transportation networks.

The integration of these development projects underscores SDRPY's commitment to supporting infrastructure improvements that lead to sustainable development in Yemen. By enhancing connectivity within the region, these projects play a crucial role in fostering economic stability.

Overall, SDRPY's comprehensive approach aims to bolster Yemen's transportation infrastructure while promoting economic growth through improved trade relations with Saudi Arabia.
