SDAIA Teams Up With NAVER To Elevate Arabic Through AI Language Models
The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NAVER LABS and NAVER CLOUD to develop an advanced Arabic language model. This agreement was formalised at the third Global AI Summit (GAIN) in Riyadh. Dr. Esam Alwagait, Director of the National Information Center, signed on behalf of SDAIA, while Dr. Sangok Seok and Dr. Yoon Kim represented NAVER CLOUD, and Dr. Choi Soo-Yeon represented NAVER Corporation.
The collaboration aims to leverage cutting-edge technology to create an Arabic language model that offers data-centre solutions and services. Additionally, it will contribute to the cloud platform for digital transformation solutions. The partnership is hosted by SDAIA President Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi and Republic of Korea Ambassador to KSA Choi-Byung-Huyk.

SDAIA's efforts include developing applications that use AI algorithms to strengthen the Arabic language's presence in artificial intelligence fields. Recently, in partnership with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, SDAIA created a dictionary of data and AI terms. This dictionary provides simplified definitions in both Arabic and English.
SDAIA also developed the "Your Voice" application, which converts speech into text using voice recognition in classical Arabic and local dialects. This app can be used for recording meeting minutes and building interactive audio systems.
During the second Global AI Summit in 2022, SDAIA launched the "ALLaM" application aimed at serving the Arabic language through various fields. This includes developing a model capable of writing and understanding Arabic poetry, parsing sentences accurately, and helping children learn Arabic effectively.
The MoU signifies a significant step towards enhancing the status of the Arabic language through advanced technological solutions. By focusing on AI-driven applications, SDAIA aims to promote digital transformation while preserving linguistic heritage.
