SDAIA Drives Saudi Arabia's AI Transformation And Promotes Ethical Innovation For National Growth

The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) is at the forefront of leveraging data and artificial intelligence to drive significant global benefits and enhance the Kingdom's growth. These technologies are set to revolutionise various sectors, including healthcare, finance, energy, agriculture, and cybersecurity. They aim to address complex developmental challenges, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable world.

Since its inception in 2019, SDAIA has been committed to promoting best practices in data management and responsible AI use. Supported by policies and legislation, the authority seeks to harness data as a vital economic asset to spur innovation and national competitiveness. A key initiative is SAMAI, which has seen over 424,000 citizens register to learn AI concepts, with a target of educating one million people as part of Vision 2030.

SDAIA plays a crucial role in certifying AI service providers within Saudi Arabia. This certification process, valid for one year across five levels, aims to improve the maturity and reliability of AI applications. By doing so, it enhances the quality of AI products and services throughout the Kingdom.

To ensure responsible AI adoption across sectors, SDAIA has developed comprehensive regulatory guidelines. These include principles for AI ethics, generative AI for government agencies and the public, deepfake principles, and a national framework for professional standards in Data and AI. The International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE) initiative further supports these efforts.

The Personal Data Protection Law enacted by SDAIA safeguards personal information that can identify individuals directly or indirectly. This includes names, IDs, financial data, and images. The law ensures privacy protection while regulating data sharing to prevent misuse.

A notable example of SDAIA's impact is its collaboration with the Government Expenditure and Projects Efficiency Authority on the Deem cloud computing services project. This partnership has generated a financial impact exceeding SAR5 billion by providing 49 services to over 180 government agencies. It integrates more than 230 data centres to deliver reliable technological assets.

Under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, SDAIA aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a global technology hub for advanced AI. Human safety remains central in all discussions about AI technologies to ensure they benefit humanity as a whole.

SDAIA's efforts align with national values and ethical standards through initiatives like the Saudi academic framework for AI qualifications, national AI index, and AI market regulatory tools. These measures support responsible innovation while maintaining ethical integrity in technological advancements.
