Saudi Data And AI Authority Launches Initiative To Promote Ethical AI Use

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has launched the AI Ethics Early Adopters initiative. This program encourages organisations in both public and private sectors to prioritise ethical considerations when using artificial intelligence (AI). The launch took place at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh during the third Global AI Summit (GAIN Summit).

The initiative aims to raise awareness about responsible AI use and guide organisations on how to maximise its benefits. It includes incentives to promote compliance and enhance the trustworthiness of AI products. Organisations are encouraged to adopt ethical and advanced practices in developing AI systems across their products and services.

SDAIA's program awards incentive badges at the product level based on five risk-based levels: Aware, Adopting, Compliant, Assured, and Pioneer. These badges reflect the maturity of AI risk-management practices associated with product use for a specific period.

This initiative aligns with SDAIA's efforts to regulate AI and support Saudi Arabia's progress in this field. It aims to bolster the Kingdom's global standing and attain leadership, especially given the rapid development of advanced technologies and their overall impact on individuals and entities.

During the second Global AI Summit in 2022, SDAIA introduced the AI Ethics Principles. These principles facilitate practical and responsible application throughout the lifecycle of AI system development. The new initiative builds on these principles to further advance research, development, and innovation in Saudi Arabia.
