Saudi Heritage Commission Hosts Scientific Symposium On Al-Faw Archaeological Area's Cultural Significance

The Saudi Heritage Commission has announced a symposium focused on the Al-Faw Archaeological Area. This event aims to increase awareness of the site's historical and archaeological importance. It will also highlight ongoing research and excavation efforts initiated by the late Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ansary, a key figure in Saudi archaeology.

Recently, the Cultural Landscape of Al-Faw Archaeological Area was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in New Delhi, held from July 22 to 31. This recognition marks it as the eighth site in Saudi Arabia to be acknowledged for its universal value.

Symposium on Al-Faw Archaeological Area Held

The symposium will feature contributions from King Saud University, showcasing its involvement in Al-Faw's archaeological projects. The event underscores partnerships between various sectors, including public, private, and non-profit organizations. These collaborations aim to enhance understanding of Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage.

Participants will engage in field visits to Al-Faw, providing firsthand experience of the area. Additionally, 22 research papers will be presented across five sessions. These papers will cover topics such as the origins of Al-Faw and its socio-economic history.

The commission emphasizes Saudi Arabia's historical significance on local, regional, and global scales. By promoting advanced archaeological studies, they aim to enrich academic fields and facilitate knowledge exchange among experts.

This initiative also seeks to boost public awareness about Saudi Arabia's extensive archaeological heritage that spans thousands of years. The symposium serves as a platform for sharing insights and expertise in archaeology.
