Schneider Electric Strengthens Collaboration With IRENA To Support Renewable Energy In The Global South

Schneider Electric has expanded its partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to enhance support for utility companies in the Global South. This collaboration, under the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA), aims to boost capacity building through a digital learning platform offering accessible e-learning resources. The initiative was announced during the World Governments Summit in Dubai.

The partnership between Schneider Electric and IRENA will focus on knowledge sharing and capacity building. Schneider Electric will contribute to workshops, seminars, and discussions hosted by IRENA. These efforts aim to improve industry capabilities, raise awareness about energy transitions, and engage various stakeholders in promoting renewable energy solutions.

Collaboration Between Schneider Electric and IRENA

A key aspect of this collaboration is expanding energy access while advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiatives also align with the UAE's vision for a sustainable economy, supporting global efforts to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. This strategic move underscores Schneider Electric's commitment to sustainability.

Amel Chadli, President of Gulf Countries at Schneider Electric, stated, "At Schneider Electric, sustainability is central to everything we do. Our collaboration with IRENA enables us to drive impact, leverage digital innovation, and empower utilities in the Global South to accelerate renewable energy adoption, with a view to equip businesses and communities with the tools needed for a more sustainable and inclusive world."

Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, highlighted the importance of this partnership: "As renewables continue to dominate power capacity additions year after year, the need for more balanced, interconnected and flexible grids is more pressing than ever. Through this partnership, IRENA and Schneider Electric will collaborate to empower utilities in the Global South to integrate renewables more effectively, ensuring the delivery of clean, affordable, and resilient power to communities across the developing world."

Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA)

The Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA) was introduced at COP28 in 2023 in the UAE. It was established under IRENA's guidance alongside UN Climate Change High-level Champions. UNEZA aims to promote electrification and clean energy deployment while aligning with 2030 Breakthrough goals and a net-zero future by 2050.

This alliance brings together global industry leaders, regional utilities, developers, and power system technology experts from around the world. Their collective efforts are directed towards creating renewables-ready grids that support clean energy transitions globally.

The collaboration between Schneider Electric and IRENA marks a significant step towards achieving sustainable energy goals worldwide. By focusing on capacity building and knowledge sharing in the Global South, they aim to create a more inclusive future powered by renewable energy.
