SCDDR Meeting In Jeddah To Explore Trends In Satellite-Based Search And Rescue Operations
Saudi Arabia, through the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), is set to host the South Central Data Distribution Region (SCDDR) meeting. This event, part of the International Cospas-Sarsat Programme, will take place in Jeddah from Monday to Thursday, February 24–27. The programme focuses on satellite-aided search and rescue operations.
The meeting will be led by the Spanish center responsible for overseeing the SCDDR. It will bring together representatives from various mission control centers (MCCs) in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Algeria, Nigeria, and Togo. Additionally, representatives from the Cospas-Sarsat program will participate.

Saudi Arabia's involvement in hosting this meeting underscores its significant role in aviation and satellite-based search and rescue efforts. The Kingdom has been a key player at local, regional, and international levels. Notably, Saudi Arabia was among the first countries in the region to join the Cospas-Sarsat Programme as a ground segment provider.
During the meeting, participants will review reports on the performance efficiency of MCCs operating within the region. They will also discuss updates on technical, operational, and administrative matters related to satellite-based search and rescue initiatives.
The gathering aims to explore future directions for the programme. A report summarising the meeting’s outcomes will be prepared for the upcoming session of the programme’s joint committee. This document will include recommendations that need to be reviewed and forwarded to the Cospas-Sarsat Council for further action.
This event highlights Saudi Arabia's active participation in enhancing global search and rescue capabilities through satellite technology. By hosting such meetings, Saudi Arabia continues to contribute significantly to international aviation safety efforts.
