SCCI Launches First Rare Natural Pearls Exhibition Showcasing Emirati Heritage And Craftsmanship

The Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, initiated by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), is preparing to unveil the "Rare Natural Pearls" Exhibition in Sharjah. This event will be part of the sixth Jewels of Emirates Show at Expo Centre Sharjah from 29 January to 2 February 2025. The exhibition, in collaboration with Suwaidi Pearls, will be the first of its kind in Sharjah.

Visitors can expect to see an impressive collection of rare natural pearls, including silver and gold varieties. These pieces are known for their unique shapes, sizes, and exceptional quality. The exhibition will also highlight cultural activities related to pearling traditions and showcase traditional tools used in pearl diving.

SCCI Unveils Rare Natural Pearls Exhibition

A competition for the "Best Natural Pearl Jewellery Set Design" will take place during the event. Emirati designers from the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform have participated by creating jewellery using "Gioon" quality pearls and "Sangbasie" shades. The competition aims to celebrate artistic innovation while honouring traditional craftsmanship.

A panel discussion titled "The UAE: The Coast of Pearls Through the Ages" will explore the historical significance of UAE's coasts in the global pearl trade. Experts will discuss pearl diving's role in Emirati heritage. Notable speakers include Mr. Abdulla Rashed Al Suwaidi, Dr. Ali Saqr Al Suwaidi, and Dr. Sultan Al Amimi.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, remarked that this exhibition is a valuable addition to Sharjah's jewellery and gemstones sector events. He highlighted Sharjah's historical importance in pearl trade and diving, noting that it provides a platform for showcasing rare marine treasures while promoting maritime heritage sustainability.

Mona Sultan Al Suwaidi, Director of SCCI’s Executive Office and head of the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, stated that this exhibition underscores their achievements in advancing local gold, gemstones, and pearl industries. She noted a growing number of designers joining the Platform annually, now exceeding 250 members.

Abdulla Rashed Al Suwaidi from Suwaidi Pearls emphasised that participating in this exhibition helps preserve UAE's rich heritage in pearl craftsmanship. He expressed pride in showcasing Emirati natural pearls' quality and contributing to highlighting Sharjah's history in pearl diving and trade.

The event promises to be a significant occasion for celebrating Emirati culture and craftsmanship while promoting young talents within the industry. It reflects ongoing efforts to sustain maritime heritage as an essential part of Emirati identity.
