SBA Concludes Inaugural Sharjah NYU SPS Executive Publishing Programme For Industry Professionals

The inaugural Sharjah NYU SPS Executive Publishing Programme has concluded, marking a significant milestone for the region. Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority in partnership with the American University of Sharjah and NYU School of Professional Studies, this four-day event brought together 51 publishing professionals from 17 countries. Participants gained insights from global leaders on digital strategies, leadership, and international market trends.

Joana Jamil from Meta led a session on digital marketing, focusing on how Meta's platforms can enhance book sales. She explained how to target readers effectively, optimise ad campaigns, and build brand presence across Facebook and Instagram. Jamil highlighted Meta's commitment to connecting with readers through AI tools that allow precise audience targeting and content creation.

Sharjah NYU SPS Executive Publishing Programme Concludes

Chantal Restivo-Alessi from HarperCollins discussed artificial intelligence in publishing. She explored AI's role in content curation, workflow automation, and ethical considerations. Restivo-Alessi emphasised the need for collaboration to protect intellectual property while using AI to enhance workflows and support translation efforts.

Donia Abi Nassif from TikTok MENA shared insights into TikTok's influence on book discovery through 'BookTok'. She provided tips for leveraging viral trends and creator partnerships to engage audiences. Abi Nassif noted TikTok's power in connecting readers globally, encouraging creators to mix content focused on books with personal moments.

The programme aimed to address challenges in the evolving publishing industry by offering actionable insights into partnerships, digital formats, marketing strategies, and cross-cultural innovation. Participants engaged with industry experts from HarperCollins, Meta, TikTok, and Princeton University Press, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange.

Programme Highlights

The final day featured workshops and discussions under the theme "Eye on the Future". These sessions included strategic case studies that encouraged participants to think forward. The event concluded with a certificate ceremony led by Mansour Al-Hassani and Andrea Chambers from NYU SPS Centre for Publishing. This ceremony not only recognised participants' achievements but also welcomed them into an international network of publishing leaders.

Mansour Al-Hassani highlighted the programme's significance: "Hosting this programme in Sharjah represents a major step toward bridging regional and international publishing ecosystems while empowering industry professionals with the tools to navigate market demands." This initiative aims to strengthen both digital and physical book markets worldwide.

Participants left equipped with innovative strategies ready to implement within their organisations. The programme underscored the importance of adaptability in an industry continuously shaped by technological advancements.
