Saudi Minister To Open Water Forum, Aiming At Sustainable Solutions For Pressing Challenges
The third edition of the Saudi Water Forum, a pivotal event focusing on the critical challenges and solutions within the water sector, is set to be inaugurated by Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture. Scheduled to commence tomorrow, this three-day forum is organized under the theme "Water Sustainability: Our Responsibility". It promises extensive participation from decision-makers, government officials, water experts, and specialists both from within the Kingdom and globally, alongside local and international private sector entities.
With more than 2,000 participants from 35 countries and 133 speakers lined up, the forum is a testament to the global concern and collaborative effort towards addressing water sustainability issues. Dr. Abdulaziz AlShaibani, the deputy-minister for water and head of the forum's organizing committee, highlighted Saudi Arabia's significant achievements in the water sector as part of its commitment to the National Water Strategy. This strategy is in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation services while preserving water resources.

Despite being one of the world's most water-scarce countries, Saudi Arabia has made notable advancements in water production and treatment. Dr. AlShaibani emphasized the Kingdom's dedication to contributing towards global efforts in adopting solutions for water challenges and management. A key milestone in these efforts is the establishment of a global water organization based in Riyadh, announced by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This move underscores Saudi Arabia's leadership role in addressing international water issues.
Furthermore, Dr. AlShaibani mentioned Saudi Arabia's active participation within the G20 discussions on water-related topics. This engagement has culminated in the Kingdom winning the bid to host the 11th World Water Forum in 2027, marking a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to achieve SDGs related to water sustainability. The Saudi Water Forum thus stands as a crucial platform for fostering dialogue, sharing knowledge, and promoting innovative solutions to ensure the sustainable management of water resources globally.
