Saudi Water Authority Hosts U.S.-Saudi Water Summit 2025 To Enhance International Cooperation In Water Management
The U.S.-Saudi Water Summit 2025 wrapped up at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley in Palo Alto, California. Organised by the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), the summit was part of a delegation's visit to the U.S., led by SWA President Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim, from September 28 to October 7. Representatives from both public and private sectors participated.
Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim welcomed attendees, highlighting the summit as a crucial platform for international cooperation on water challenges. He stressed the importance of exchanging knowledge and developing innovative solutions for a sustainable future. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in the water sector, driven by its ambitious vision and pioneering projects focused on innovation and advanced technologies.

The summit included panel discussions, research papers, and presentations from both Saudi and American experts. These sessions showcased innovative experiences and solutions in areas like desalination, water reuse technologies, digital transformation, smart networks, sustainability, environmental protection, financing, investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This rich dialogue reflected the alignment of perspectives between experts from both nations.
During their U.S. tour, the Saudi delegation visited several institutions and major companies such as the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Xylem, Plug and Play, and Google. These visits aimed to enhance technical cooperation and gain insights into successful global practices.
The summit underscored Saudi Arabia's leadership in transforming its water sector through advancements in desalination and water transmission. The Kingdom has achieved global records in operational efficiency while reducing energy consumption and mitigating environmental impacts. This solidifies its position as a leader in water resource management worldwide.
Government officials, regulatory bodies, investors, and researchers from both countries attended the event. It highlighted Saudi Arabia's pioneering efforts in water management and its commitment to sustainable practices.
Memoranda of Understanding
The event also saw the signing of eight memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between SWA and various U.S. entities. These agreements aim to build capacity, exchange knowledge in the water sector, explore advanced solutions, strengthen research cooperation, develop human capital, foster innovation, and promote sustainable water management.
The Saudi-U.S. Water Summit served as a key milestone in fostering collaboration between both nations. It provided an opportunity to share expertise and explore innovative solutions for addressing global water challenges effectively.
