Saudi HR Ministry Initiates Wage Protection Service For Domestic Workers
The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has introduced a pivotal initiative, launching the Wage Protection Service for domestic labor salaries starting July 1. This development is aimed at enhancing the domestic labor sector and safeguarding the rights of employers and domestic workers alike. By leveraging digital wallets and banks authorized on the Musaned platform, the service promises to enhance transparency and reliability in salary transactions, a move that aligns with the ministry's commitment to the welfare of contractual parties, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
According to the ministry, the Wage Protection Service will initially cover domestic workers under new contracts, with a phased extension to existing contracts based on the employer's number of domestic workers. Employers with more than four domestic workers will be incorporated into the service starting January 1, 2025. Those with three or more will follow on July 1, 2025, and those with two or more on October 1, 2025. By January 1, 2026, the service aims to encompass all domestic workers. Notably, the service has been optionally available on Musaned since April 1, 2022, and has already garnered positive feedback from users.
The implementation of formal channels for salary payments to domestic workers brings several advantages. For employers, it serves as a verifiable record of wages paid, simplifies the termination of a worker's contract or procedures when traveling, and offers protection in case of disputes between the employer and the employee. This structured approach not only promotes fairness but also enhances the overall management of domestic labor relations.
In conclusion, the Wage Protection Service represents a significant step forward in the ministry's efforts to develop the domestic labor sector in Saudi Arabia. By ensuring transparent and secure salary transactions, the initiative upholds the rights of both employers and domestic workers, fostering a more reliable and equitable working environment.
