Saudi Vision 2030's Makkah Route Initiative Aims To Elevate Hajj Services For Pilgrims

Since the inception of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the nation has placed a high priority on ensuring the security and service of millions of pilgrims and visitors. The Kingdom has utilized its vast human, material, and technical resources to guarantee a comfortable and secure experience for pilgrims from their arrival until their departure. A significant milestone in this endeavor was reached on April 25th, 2016, when His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, launched the Kingdom's Vision 2030. This initiative is dedicated to serving more pilgrims and enhancing the quality of services provided to them.

In 2017, the Saudi Ministry of Interior underscored the Kingdom's commitment to serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors. As part of this commitment, the Ministry introduced the Makkah Route Initiative under the umbrella of Vision 2030's Pilgrim Experience Program. This initiative is designed to streamline the procedures for pilgrims in their own countries through the use of advanced technologies and in collaboration with partner government agencies. The aim is to facilitate a smooth, efficient, and seamless arrival process into the Kingdom, allowing pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind.

Elevating Hajj Services: Makkah Route Initiative

Over the years, including 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023, the Ministry of Interior has consistently implemented the Makkah Route Initiative. The initiative's goal is to enhance the pilgrim experience from departure in their home country to arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah or Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah. In 1445 H / 2024 CE, this commitment continues with multiple ministries and authorities like foreign affairs, Hajj and Umrah, health, media, civil aviation, Zakat Authority, data and AI authority, and the General Directorate of Passports joining forces to deliver these services.

The Makkah Route Initiative encompasses several key services for pilgrims at airports in their home countries. These services include receiving pilgrims, capturing their biometrics, issuing Hajj visas, and electronically coding their luggage. Upon arrival in the Kingdom, a coordinated system involving partner agencies and volunteers is in place to welcome the pilgrims. Special pathways for arrivals and buses for transportation to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah are allocated to ensure a smooth transition.

This comprehensive approach not only aims to facilitate the logistical aspects of Hajj but also seeks to imbue the journey with a sense of welcome, hospitality, security, and safety. The Kingdom's efforts are designed to ensure that this religious journey remains a cherished memory for pilgrims for many years to come. The Makkah Route Initiative stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia's unwavering dedication to serving the needs of pilgrims and enhancing their experience as part of Vision 2030's broader goals.
