Saudi Fund For Development And UK’s FCDO Unite To Propel Global Development Initiatives
In a significant move towards bolstering global development efforts, the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) have entered into a joint cooperation arrangement (JCA). This partnership aims to enhance development initiatives and tackle policy issues that both parties mutually prioritize. The agreement was formalized in a ceremony attended by key figures from both nations, marking a pivotal moment in international development collaboration.
The JCA outlines several critical objectives, including supporting the world's most impoverished and vulnerable populations, improving donor coordination, and ensuring transparency and accountability in aid. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of effective monitoring and evaluation to achieve these goals. The ceremony, held at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) headquarters, underscored the commitment of both the SFD and FCDO to advancing their international development agendas.

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor General of KSrelief, Rt Hon. Andrew Mitchell MP, UK’s Deputy Foreign Secretary and Minister of State, and SFD CEO Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad were present at this landmark event. Mitchell highlighted the urgency of reinvigorating efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. He stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in this partnership with Saudi Arabia to make significant strides in global development.
Al-Marshad expressed optimism about the JCA with the FCDO, viewing it as a testament to their shared commitment to enhancing the global development system. He emphasized the potential of this partnership to significantly improve millions of lives worldwide and elevate the quality of life for those in dire need.
Since its inception in 1975, the SFD has been instrumental in financing over 800 development projects and programs across more than 100 developing countries, with investments exceeding $20 billion. These initiatives span various sectors including transportation, social infrastructure, agriculture, energy, industry, and mining. Through its efforts, the SFD has significantly contributed to raising living standards, promoting socio-economic development, and creating employment opportunities for countless beneficiaries globally.
This collaboration between the SFD and FCDO represents a forward step in international efforts to address pressing development challenges. By pooling their resources and expertise, both organizations aim to make a lasting impact on global poverty reduction and sustainable development.
