Saudi Transport Minister Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih Heads Delegation To IMO Council Session In London

Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and acting head of the Saudi Transport General Authority, is leading Saudi Arabia's delegation at the 133rd International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council session in London from November 18 to 22. The Kingdom joins 40 other member states in this executive body responsible for overseeing maritime strategies and decisions.

Saudi Arabia is committed to advancing its maritime sector through significant projects aimed at enhancing maritime safety, protecting marine environments, and training skilled personnel. These efforts are part of a broader collaboration with the IMO to improve safety standards and reduce pollution from shipping activities.

Saudi Minister Leads Delegation at IMO Session

The Kingdom is actively working with the IMO on initiatives to enhance maritime safety and decrease marine pollution. This includes refining the organization's rules and procedures to ensure they are more cohesive and effective. Such collaborations aim to make shipping safer and more environmentally friendly.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia is engaging in discussions with the IMO Secretariat to promote linguistic diversity within the organization. This initiative seeks to broaden communication channels and ensure inclusivity among member states, facilitating better cooperation on global maritime issues.

The Kingdom has shown strong support for empowering women in the maritime industry by participating in various activities and workshops. Notably, it took part in a workshop in Panama focused on combating marine pollution for female leaders from the Caribbean and Central America. This follows a successful workshop for women from the Middle East and North Africa.

Saudi Arabia's participation underscores its commitment to gender equality within the maritime sector. By supporting such initiatives, the Kingdom aims to enhance women's roles and contributions in this traditionally male-dominated field.
