Saudi Medical Team Successfully Separates Nigerian Conjoined Twins Hassana And Hasina
In a remarkable medical feat, the King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in Saudi Arabia has achieved a significant milestone by successfully separating Nigerian conjoined twins, Hassana and Hasina. This operation was conducted under the high patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The twins arrived in Riyadh on October 31, 2023, and underwent detailed examinations. These assessments revealed that they shared critical areas including the lower abdomen, pelvis, lower spine, and lower spinal nerves. The separation procedure, a complex surgery lasting 16.5 hours, was executed on Thursday morning by a dedicated team of 39 medical professionals. This operation marks a significant achievement as the 60th successful separation by the Saudi program for separating conjoined twins.

Over the last 34 years, this pioneering program has extended its services to 135 conjoined twins from 25 different countries, showcasing the Kingdom's commitment to medical and humanitarian excellence. Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), and head of the medical team, expressed his pride in these medical achievements. He stated, "Such successive medical breakthroughs are a testament to the Kingdom's shining examples of progress and development," aligning with Vision 2030's healthcare development goals.
The parents of Hassana and Hasina have expressed their profound gratitude towards the Saudi leadership and the medical team for their life-changing surgery and exceptional care. This operation not only highlights the Kingdom's advanced healthcare capabilities but also its ongoing commitment to providing humanitarian aid and relief globally.
This successful surgery is a clear reflection of Saudi Arabia's dedication to advancing healthcare standards and contributing to global medical sciences. The Kingdom continues to demonstrate its ability to undertake complex medical procedures, reinforcing its position as a leader in healthcare development.
