Saudi Arabia Showcases Talented Students At IOAA 2025 In India
Saudi Arabia is actively participating in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2025) in Mumbai, India. The event, from August 11 to 21, brings together students from over 60 countries. This annual competition, first held in Thailand in 2007, challenges high school students under 20 with theoretical and practical tasks.
The Kingdom is represented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba" and the Ministry of Education. Five Saudi students were chosen after rigorous training sessions led by Mawhiba. This initiative was supported by the Ministry of Education, the Saudi Space Agency, and sponsored by NEO Space Group.

This year’s Saudi team includes Joud Al-Lahiani from Makkah, Fajr Al-Obaidan from Al-Ahsa, Mohammed Al-Qahtani from Riyadh, along with Hussain Al-Mubarak and Abdullah Al-Fayez from the Eastern Region. Each country in the competition fields a team of three to five students.
Saudi Arabia's participation underscores its dedication to nurturing talented youth globally. The Kingdom aims to foster a skilled generation that contributes to national progress while showcasing a positive image of Saudi students worldwide. This marks Saudi Arabia's second appearance at the IOAA after debuting in 2024.
In their first participation last year, the Saudi team achieved commendable success by securing three bronze medals. Their continued involvement in such international scientific competitions highlights their commitment to excellence and development in science.
