Saudi-Swedish Joint Committee Meets To Enhance Bilateral Trade And Cooperation Initiatives
The Saudi-Swedish Joint Committee convened for its third session in Riyadh from November 4 to 5. This meeting was co-chaired by Abdulaziz bin Omar Al-Sakran, Deputy Governor for International Relations at the Saudi General Authority of Foreign Trade (GAFT), and Camilla Mellander, Director General of Trade at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The committee agreed on 45 initiatives aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
These initiatives focus on overcoming challenges in trade and investment, as well as fostering collaboration in sectors like economy, energy, technology, industry, education, health, tourism, and sports. Al-Sakran highlighted Saudi Arabia's dedication to strengthening trade relations with Sweden and emphasized the need to address obstacles that could impede investment and trade flows between the two countries.

The Saudi-Swedish Joint Committee was established in 2017 to bolster ties between Saudi Arabia and Sweden across various sectors. The committee meets every two years to promote trade relations and tackle shared challenges. In 2023, the trade volume between the two countries reached approximately $1.7 billion.
Saudi Arabia's primary exports to Sweden included plastics and their products, machinery, and mechanical appliances and parts. Meanwhile, Sweden's key imports consisted of iron and steel products as well as pharmaceuticals. These exchanges highlight the diverse nature of trade between the two nations.
Al-Sakran reiterated Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing its trade partnerships globally. He stressed the importance of removing barriers that may hinder investment opportunities between Saudi Arabia and Sweden. Both countries are determined to expand their collaboration across multiple fields.
GAFT plays a crucial role in maximizing Saudi Arabia's international trade benefits while safeguarding its interests abroad. By doing so, GAFT contributes significantly to the development of the national economy through strategic foreign trade engagements.
The recent session of the Saudi-Swedish Joint Committee underscores both nations' dedication to fostering stronger economic ties. By implementing these initiatives, they aim to create a more robust framework for bilateral cooperation that benefits both economies.
