Saudi Gold Medalists Embark On Oxford Scholars Programme For AI Excellence
Saudi students who secured gold medals at the National Olympiad for Programming and Artificial Intelligence (ATHKA) have commenced their participation in the international Oxford Scholars Programme (OSP) at the University of Oxford, UK. The event was organised by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).
The ten middle and high school students, aged between 14 and 18, are undergoing a two-week training program. This program focuses on programming, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning. They will learn to apply algorithms to solve practical problems while understanding the ethical implications of AI technologies.

Workshops and activities are also part of the program to enhance both personal and professional skills. These workshops aim to provide a comprehensive learning experience that goes beyond technical knowledge.
The Saudi students have joined peers from various countries worldwide in this prestigious program. This international collaboration offers them a unique opportunity to interact with students from different backgrounds, fostering a global perspective on technology and innovation.
Upon completing the program, participants will receive a certificate accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC). Additionally, they will have the chance to obtain an academic recommendation for studying at one of the world's most prestigious universities.
ATHKA Competition
The ATHKA competition saw 298 students competing in its final stage. These finalists were selected from among 260,000 Saudi students from middle and high school levels who registered for the competition. The aim was to train them in competitive programming and AI.
This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's goals to build national capabilities in advanced technologies. By nurturing young talent in these fields, Saudi Arabia aims to position itself as a leader in technological innovation.
The OSP program not only provides technical training but also emphasizes ethical considerations in AI. This holistic approach ensures that students are well-prepared to tackle future challenges responsibly.
The collaboration between SDAIA, the Ministry of Education, and Mawhiba highlights Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering talent in science and technology. Such initiatives are crucial for developing a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation.
These efforts reflect a broader strategy to integrate advanced technologies into various sectors of society. By investing in education and training, Saudi Arabia is laying the groundwork for sustainable development in line with Vision 2030.
