Saudi Sports Arbitration Center Highlights Role In Resolving Sports Disputes At Arab Conference

The Saudi Sports Arbitration Center (SSAC) recently took part in the fourth Arab Conference on Sports and Law. This event, held by the Arab Administrative Development Organization in Cairo from August 4 to 6, focused on "Arbitration in sports disputes in light of international significance." The SSAC was invited to participate, highlighting its role in sports arbitration.

Dr. Muhammad Bin Nasser Basim, Chairman of the SSAC Board of Directors, participated in a panel discussion titled "Sports and sports arbitration, locally and internationally." He emphasized that national arbitration centers are crucial modern tools for resolving sports disputes efficiently. These centers offer quicker alternatives compared to traditional court processes.

Saudi Center Discusses Sports Dispute Resolution

Dr. Basim praised Saudi Arabia's efforts in establishing the SSAC under the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee's guidance in 2016. The center acts as the sole authority for sports disputes within the country. It operates under independent and neutral regulations, which help resolve cases faster and increase legal awareness.

The SSAC's establishment has reduced reliance on the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Dr. Basim highlighted that this development contributes significantly to resolving sports disputes more efficiently within Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Basim also stressed the importance of reviewing legislative frameworks to ensure they align with international standards. He advocated for defining exclusive jurisdiction for arbitration centers and enhancing transparency by publishing statistics and rulings.

He concluded that effective arbitration centers require an integrated system of legislation, administration, and competencies. This system is essential for achieving fair sports justice amid rapid developments in the sector.

International Engagements and Cooperation

The SSAC's participation in this conference is part of its broader strategy to engage locally, regionally, and internationally. Through these engagements, the center aims to showcase its pioneering experience, exchange expertise, and foster cooperation with legal and sports entities worldwide.

This approach not only highlights Saudi Arabia's advancements in sports arbitration but also strengthens ties with other organizations dedicated to improving legal frameworks in sports globally.
