Saudi Space Agency Collaborates With World Economic Forum To Launch Space Futures Centre

The World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Saudi Space Agency have recently inked an agreement to set up the Centre for Space Futures, a pioneering initiative slated for launch this autumn. This strategic collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing global space sector dialogues, integrating best practices, and propelling space technology advancements. Hosted by the Saudi Space Agency, the Centre aims to be at the forefront of fostering a dynamic and sustainable space economy worldwide.

Dr. Mohammed Altamimi, CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, emphasized the Centre's dedication to developing principles, expanding knowledge, refining models, and cultivating partnerships. These efforts are geared towards leveraging the immense potential of space for global benefit. "The center is committed to fostering a vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable space economy globally," Dr. Altamimi stated, highlighting the critical role of space technologies in areas such as climate change monitoring and enhancing human connectivity through satellites.

Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director at the World Economic Forum, underscored the significant impact of the global space sector on Earth. He pointed out that the Centre for Space Futures will be integrated into the C4IR Network, reflecting its crucial role in addressing various aspects including space technological innovation, policies, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability. "From monitoring the effects of climate change to increasing human connectivity via satellites, the impact of the global space sector on Earth cannot be overstated," Jurgens remarked.

The establishment of the Centre for Space Futures represents a landmark achievement as it becomes the first entity within the network of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Centers (C4IR) to exclusively focus on space. This initiative is poised to work in tandem with C4IR Saudi Arabia to support Saudi Vision 2030.
