Saudi-South African Business Forum Strengthens Economic And Investment Ties In Riyadh
The Saudi-South African Business Forum took place in Riyadh alongside the 10th session of the Saudi–South African Joint Committee. This event brought together key figures, including Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef and South Africa’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau. Government representatives, business leaders, and investors from both nations also participated.
Economic relations between Saudi Arabia and South Africa have strengthened significantly in recent years. This growth is evident in strategic investments and increased trade flows, particularly in renewable energy, petrochemicals, and agricultural industries. Non-oil trade between the two countries reached approximately SAR5.7 billion in 2024, showcasing the depth of their partnership.

The forum highlighted the importance of advancing the joint roadmap to enhance cooperation in economic and investment fields. It also aimed to foster collaboration in social and cultural areas, reflecting the strong bilateral relations between the two countries. Both sides expressed a desire to elevate these relations to more integrated levels.
Minister Alkhorayef emphasised that this platform continues a long-standing effort to strengthen ties between Saudi Arabia and South Africa. He noted that recent years have seen solid foundations built through trade, investment, and cultural exchange. These elements are crucial assets for ongoing support that benefits both nations.
The establishment of the Saudi Arabia Africa Business Council marked a significant milestone. This council serves as a key mechanism for dialogue, facilitating economic and trade partnerships while addressing company needs in both countries. Its successful meeting in Johannesburg in October 2024 led to tangible outcomes such as new cooperation channels and enhanced trade.
Minister Parks praised the economic partnership between Saudi Arabia and South Africa as promising due to their complementary capabilities. He affirmed that Saudi Arabia serves as South Africa’s gateway to Middle Eastern markets, while South Africa acts as a gateway for Saudi Arabia into the African continent.
Vision 2030 Opportunities
Alkhorayef explained that opportunities for cooperation stem from two main factors: Saudi Vision 2030's comprehensive economic transformation plan and alignment with growing needs in vital areas like mining. These sectors offer promising prospects for shared prosperity and support both countries’ global economic presence.
Parks expressed his country’s eagerness to expand cooperation with Saudi Arabia in trade, agriculture, and infrastructure. Such collaboration would contribute to technology transfer and develop human, financial, and investment capacities.
Future Prospects
The forum builds on a previous meeting held in Johannesburg in 2024 that opened new horizons for bilateral cooperation. The Riyadh meeting reflects a shared commitment to enhancing economic relations aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives. It also reaffirms South Africa’s role as a key economic partner for Saudi Arabia within Africa.
This gathering confirmed the continuation of expanding cooperation horizons between the Kingdom and South Africa. Opportunities for collaboration are rapidly growing due to strategic initiatives like Vision 2030 which opens unprecedented prospects across various sectors.
