King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Demonstrates Ecosystem Restoration To World Experts
The King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority recently organised a field tour for international experts and representatives from various national entities. Participants included the National Center for Wildlife Development and NEOM. This event was part of a workshop on initiatives to restore degraded ecosystems in Saudi Arabia, hosted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
During the workshop, the King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority highlighted its efforts to rehabilitate degraded lands. These initiatives were showcased to both local and international experts, demonstrating collaboration with public, private, and non-profit sectors. The efforts align with Saudi Vision 2030's environmental objectives and the strategic targets for Royal Reserves by 2030.

The environmental tour featured a visit to Rawdat Al-Khafs, where one million seedlings were planted in partnership with the National Center for Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification. This site serves as a successful model for ecosystem restoration within the reserve's boundaries, adhering to global best practices. These efforts have significantly improved ecosystem services and restored biodiversity.
The King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve spans approximately 28,000 square kilometers in Riyadh. It includes notable areas such as Rawdat Al-Tanhat, Rawdat Al-Khafs, Rawdat Noura, Al-Dahna, Al-Suman, and surrounding regions. Established by royal decree, it is governed by an independent authority led by Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif.
The reserve is one of seven established by royal decree and is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The governing body is chaired by Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif and operates independently.
