Saudi Road Code Introduces Classification System For Enhanced Road Safety Across The Kingdom

The Roads General Authority (RGA) has announced that the Saudi Road Code introduces a classification system for roads both within and outside urban areas. This initiative aims to enhance safety and improve the quality of life across the Kingdom’s road network. Highways are one category outlined in the Saudi Road Code. These roads are characterized by high speeds and full access control, connecting cities and governorates without traffic signals or direct intersections. This design ensures smooth and uninterrupted travel between major locations.

Local roads are another category, supporting low-speed travel within residential and commercial neighborhoods. These roads handle light traffic, prioritizing safety for residents and businesses in these areas. They play a crucial role in maintaining safe and efficient travel within communities.
