Saudi Development Program Elevates Yemen's Transport Infrastructure For Future Growth
The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SDRPY) has significantly impacted the transport sector with 38 projects and initiatives, benefiting over 14 million people. These efforts have improved port efficiency, supported safe travel, enhanced vital roads, and boosted border crossing performance.
SDRPY's initiatives have notably enhanced the quality of life for Yemenis by improving social connectivity. Projects have facilitated safe travel and air transport, easing land, sea, and air movement to and from Yemen. This aligns with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goals three, nine, and eleven.

One key project is the rehabilitation of Aden International Airport. Serving about 345,000 passengers annually, its capacity has expanded to one million passengers per year. This improvement has elevated service quality for Yemenis and enhanced flight operations.
Other airport projects include rehabilitating Al-Ghaydah International Airport in Al-Mahra Governorate and supporting Socotra and Seiyun airports with necessary safety plans. These efforts have trained staff on navigation and air traffic control devices, enabling new domestic and international destinations.
The program's comprehensive approach includes expanding and rehabilitating the Al-Abr road. This road serves more than 11 million beneficiaries annually, connecting Saudi Arabia and Yemen. It is a strategic link among Yemeni governorates used for commercial shipments and traveller crossings.
Road Infrastructure Improvements
Another significant project is the rehabilitation of Haijat Al-Abed road. This vital street links Taiz with other governorates, impacting five million Yemenis' lives by enhancing safe travel and traffic safety. Additionally, several internal roads in Yemeni governorates have been rehabilitated to improve mobility efficiency.
The program's projects also include enhancing port efficiency through four development projects and improving three border crossings' performance. These improvements support development projects by facilitating heavy shipments' reception and transportation from supply sources to execution sites.
Comprehensive Transport Projects
The SDRPY's transport sector initiatives are part of 229 projects across eight essential sectors. These efforts have improved infrastructure, boosted human resource capabilities, developed service levels, created job opportunities, empowered women economically, and enhanced living standards.
Overall, the program's comprehensive nature serves various sector fields such as ports, border crossings, airports, and roads. This has improved mobility infrastructure logistics opportunities while ensuring safe transport for individuals and goods.
The positive reflections of these transport projects include boosting logistics companies' operations in transport, storage, and shipping fields. The program's initiatives have thus played a crucial role in enhancing access to services and markets in Yemen.
