Saudi Arabia Outlines Priority-Based Strategy For Sudan Peace And Unity At Cairo Meeting

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Elkhereiji, representing Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, attended the fifth Consultative Meeting on Enhancing Coordination of Peace Initiatives and Efforts for Sudan in Cairo, where Saudi Arabia again stressed Sudan’s stability and unity.

During the discussions, Elkhereiji said Saudi Arabia places priority on an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, safeguarding state institutions from collapse, and protecting the country’s territorial integrity and natural resources, while working to ease the humanitarian situation facing civilians across Sudanese regions.

Saudi Priorities for Sudan Peace at Cairo

Elkhereiji underlined that any settlement must be a Sudanese-Sudanese political process that respects Sudan’s sovereignty and unity, supports national institutions, and avoids external imposition, with the Kingdom continuing diplomatic efforts to narrow differences between the parties and reduce violence on the ground.

The vice minister confirmed that Saudi Arabia remains committed to reviving political talks under the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan, signed on , and the Agreement on a Short-Term Ceasefire and Humanitarian Arrangements, signed on , between the conflict parties.

Elkhereiji warned that the war in Sudan, and its humanitarian and security consequences, threatens regional stability, including Red Sea security, and described the announcement of the founding (Tasis) alliance, which seeks to create a parallel government, as completely unacceptable and damaging to crisis-resolution efforts.

According to Elkhereiji, creating entities outside recognised state institutions undermines the political track and raises serious concerns, while foreign interference, illicit weapons flows, and the presence of foreign fighters must stop urgently to support a ceasefire and enable safe humanitarian corridors for aid delivery.

The vice foreign minister also noted Saudi Arabia’s appreciation of the Sudanese government’s move to open the Adre border crossing, viewing this step as important for humanitarian operations, and the report concluded with the Saudi Press Agency timing reference of 21:19 Local Time, 18:19 GMT, code 0048.
