Saudi And Philippine Maritime Bodies To Strengthen Ties In Education And Certification

In a significant move to bolster maritime cooperation, a delegation from the Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA) embarked on a pivotal visit to the Philippines from April 29. This visit was aimed at closely examining the maritime education, training, and certification system in the Philippines, marking a step forward in strengthening ties between Saudi Arabia and the Philippines in the maritime transport sector.

The delegation's agenda included a comprehensive meeting with officials from the Philippine Maritime Industry Authority. They also made a visit to the STCW Office, where they were given an in-depth briefing on various facilities such as the exam center, exam halls, question bank, and certification center. The visit culminated on the island of Batan, where the delegation was introduced to the academy's educational programs and had the opportunity to tour its facilities.

Boosting Saudi-Philippine Maritime Ties

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance partnership in the maritime transport industry between the two nations. It aligns with the memorandum of mutual recognition of maritime certificates signed by the Minister of Transport and Logistics in November 2023. This memorandum was signed during the International Maritime Organization Council elections for the 2024-2025 term, aiming to facilitate the recognition of maritime certificates issued by both countries and to enhance cooperation in maritime transport.

The visit underscores a mutual commitment to advancing maritime education and certification processes. By closely evaluating and understanding each other's systems, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines are laying down a solid foundation for future collaborations in this vital sector. This initiative not only promises to streamline operations but also ensures that standards and qualifications are mutually recognized, thereby simplifying procedures for maritime professionals in both countries.

As global trade continues to expand, such partnerships are crucial for ensuring that maritime transport remains efficient, safe, and sustainable. The collaboration between Saudi Arabia and the Philippines serves as a model for international cooperation, demonstrating how countries can work together to support and enhance global maritime logistics and education.
