Saudi Arabia: New Partnership Aims To Enhance Healthcare Safety Across 500 Hospitals
The alliance between BD's Saudi entity and the Saudi Patient Safety Center (SPSC) reflects a mutual dedication to enhancing healthcare quality and patient safety throughout Saudi Arabia. This collaboration, established through a Memorandum of Understanding signed during the Global Health Exhibition, aims to address significant healthcare challenges in the Kingdom.
These challenges include medication errors, sepsis management, and the fight against Healthcare-associated Infections (HAIs) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The initiative is perfectly aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, striving for a substantial improvement in healthcare standards.

Dr. Ali Asery, the Director General of SPSC, emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing healthcare safety. "This collaboration marks a significant step forward in our journey to elevate healthcare safety across the Kingdom," he stated.
By leveraging BD's global expertise and state-of-the-art technologies, the focus is on cultivating a culture of perpetual improvement in both patient and healthcare worker safety. This endeavor seeks to establish new standards of healthcare excellence, providing healthcare professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge to deliver safer and more efficient care, thereby supporting Saudi Vision 2030's goals.
The partnership's efforts will be directed towards ensuring medication safety, with a goal to completely eliminate harm from medication errors. It will also concentrate on preventing HAIs, including Central Line-associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI), Catheter-associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), and Surgical Site Infections (SSI).
A strong emphasis will be placed on antimicrobial stewardship, sustainability, and enhancing workflow efficiency across the healthcare sector. These initiatives are part of BD's Signature Programmes™, aimed at boosting patient and healthcare worker safety and increasing operational efficiency.
A comprehensive plan has been laid out to achieve these objectives, including conducting workshops, roundtable discussions, clinical training sessions, and the exchange of best practices in over 500 hospitals nationwide. The collaboration will also focus on the creation and dissemination of clinical guidelines, inspired by international standards.
Additionally, the partnership intends to improve data collection practices in compliance with the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) and conduct surveys to extract insights from healthcare professionals across Saudi Arabia. Both organizations will collaboratively produce a whitepaper titled 'Medication Safety 2030', advocating for a national strategy to eradicate harm caused by medication errors.
Omar Malabarey, Country General Manager of BD Saudi Arabia, shared his perspective on the partnership, highlighting its significance in enhancing healthcare in the Kingdom. "Our partnership with the Saudi Patient Safety Center marks a significant step forward in our shared commitment to shaping the future of healthcare in Saudi Arabia," he remarked.
With a focus on innovation, this collaboration aims to introduce world-class expertise and technologies to achieve the Kingdom's healthcare objectives. The joint effort is designed to minimize risks, improve care quality, and promote a culture of safety and continuous progress, aligning with Vision 2030's ambition for a durable and efficient healthcare system.
