Saudi Passports Directorate Streamlines E-Services, Overseeing 41 Million Operations In 2023
In a significant move towards enhancing the quality of life in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Interior's General Directorate of Passports has made considerable strides in improving its electronic services. This initiative is in direct response to the directives from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. It is also a key component of the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to streamline government operations and elevate service quality for citizens, residents, and visitors alike.
In the year 2023, the directorate reported a remarkable achievement of executing over 41 million electronic operations. This vast number encompasses more than 100 services provided both locally and internationally, marking a significant milestone in the directorate's efforts to enhance its e-service offerings. Among these advancements, the Tawasul service stands out. Available through the Absher (Ministry of Interior's e-portal) and Muqeem portals, Tawasul has facilitated over three million interactions, simplifying communication between the directorate and its beneficiaries.

To further improve accessibility and user experience, several communication channels have been established. These include a unified call center accessible by dialing 992, an official email address for direct inquiries, and active social media accounts for real-time updates and interactions. Additionally, the directorate has significantly expanded its capacity to assist pilgrims participating in Hajj, Umrah, or visiting sacred sites. This effort is highlighted by the deployment of qualified multilingual staff at airports and other entry points to guide pilgrims through immigration formalities efficiently.
A cornerstone of these enhancements is the Makkah Route Initiative, an integral part of the Ministry of Interior's Pilgrim Experience Program under Vision 2030. In 2023 (1444 AH Hajj season), this initiative successfully served 242,272 pilgrims. It streamlined their journey by processing visas electronically, collecting essential information beforehand, and expediting immigration procedures upon their arrival.
The emphasis on expanding e-services is aligned with Vision 2030's objective of fostering efficient and effective government performance. By facilitating swift processing and broader access to digital government services, the General Directorate of Passports significantly enhances user convenience and contributes to the Kingdom's overarching goal of improving quality of life for all its inhabitants.
