Saudi Olympic And Paralympic Committee Celebrated With SportAccord Award

In a notable event at the SportAccord Convention in Birmingham, UK, the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) was honoured with an exceptional SportAccord award. This prestigious recognition was presented to SOPC for its significant contributions to the world of sports, particularly highlighted by its hosting of two major international events. The ceremony saw the presence of influential figures such as Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, and Robin E. Mitchell, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees.

The award was a nod to SOPC's successful organization of the UTS World Virtual Youth Festival in 2021 and the World Combat Games in Riyadh in 2023. The former event saw participation from over 30,000 children across various countries, involving more than 100 international organizations. Meanwhile, the latter gathered more than 1,500 athletes from over 120 countries, showcasing Riyadh as a global hub for martial arts and combat sports.

Saudi Committee Wins SportAccord Award

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Chairman of SOPC, expressed his gratitude towards SportAccord for this recognition. He emphasized that such achievements were made possible through the unwavering support of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Their backing was instrumental in bringing these international events to Saudi soil, marking a first for SOPC.

Additionally, the convention provided a platform for showcasing other sports initiatives from Saudi Arabia. The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) and the International Camel Racing Federation (ICRF), both hosted by the Kingdom, were featured in exhibitions at the event. These exhibitions were visited by SOPC Vice President Prince Fahad bin Jalawi and Secretary General Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Baeshen, further highlighting Saudi Arabia's growing influence in the global sports arena.

This accolade from SportAccord not only celebrates SOPC's recent achievements but also underscores Saudi Arabia's expanding role in hosting and promoting international sports events. Through such endeavors, the Kingdom continues to foster a vibrant sports culture both locally and internationally.
