Saudi National Team Coach Renard Seeks Strong Finish In Tournament
Saudi national team head coach Hervé Renard said the squad now focuses on ending its campaign strongly when facing the UAE, after missing out on the final. Renard spoke during a pre-match press conference and stressed that, although this stage was not the main target, the players remain committed to finishing the tournament in the best possible way.
Saudi national team player Abdulrahman Al-Aboud explained that the group had aimed to secure the championship itself, but this goal was not reached. Al-Aboud added that the squad is fully prepared to compete for third place against the UAE national team and intends to show determination despite the disappointment of the semifinal exit.

Renard revisited the previous match against Jordan, describing the preparations as thorough and well-organised. He said the technical staff had studied Jordan’s style in advance and that the Saudi national team applied the planned approach. According to Renard, the side controlled possession and spent long spells in the opponent’s half, which was reflected in the post-match statistics.
Despite those indicators, Renard pointed out that the main difference lay in finishing. The Saudi national team created several clear chances but did not convert them into goals, while Jordan took advantage of the available opportunities. Renard considered leaving the tournament at the semifinal stage a difficult moment for everyone involved, stressing the need to remain professional and to prepare carefully for the upcoming match.
Renard stated that the team had produced strong displays in earlier games, yet effectiveness in front of goal still needed improvement. He described goal-scoring as a decisive element that must be developed during the next period. Renard also underlined that regular involvement for players in domestic competitions is vital to raise readiness and reach the competitive level required for World Cup participation.
Looking ahead, Renard emphasised that maintaining high standards in local leagues will support the Saudi national team in presenting the image expected on the global stage. The coming match against the UAE therefore holds importance, not only for securing third place, but also for reinforcing discipline, confidence and preparation for future international commitments.
