Saudi Arabia Renames Key Ministry To Support Urban Development Goals

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has issued a directive to rename the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. The new name will be the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. Minister Majed bin Abdullah Al-Hogail expressed his gratitude to both King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for this change.

Al-Hogail highlighted that the name change signifies a dedication to creating an advanced urban environment. This aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. He mentioned that the ministry aims to enhance its performance and that of its municipalities to achieve sustainable urban development plans. Additionally, it seeks to improve city life quality and develop the housing sector to offer innovative services.

Ministry Renaming Backs Urban Goals

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs was initially established by royal order in 1395 AH/1975 AD. It was responsible for urban planning and developing municipal and rural areas. The ministry also managed municipal services to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

In 1442 AH, a royal decree merged the Ministry of Housing with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs. This merger formed the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. The integration aimed to continue achievements and meet national aspirations, positioning Saudi Arabia among advanced countries.

Al-Hogail emphasized that this effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance overall performance within the ministry. The goal is to achieve sustainable urban development plans while improving life quality in cities. Developing the housing sector is also a priority, aiming to provide innovative services.

The ministry's responsibilities have evolved over time, reflecting its commitment to urban planning and development. Initially focused on municipal and rural areas, it now encompasses broader objectives under Saudi Vision 2030.

This renaming marks a significant step in aligning with national development goals. It underscores a continuous commitment to enhancing urban environments across Saudi Arabia.
