Saudi Arabia Advocates For Global Water Solutions At World Forum In Indonesia

The Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA), Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen Alfadley, led Saudi Arabia's delegation to the 10th World Water Forum in Indonesia from May 18 to 25. During the event, Alfadley held several meetings with key international figures to discuss water challenges and the exchange of expertise.

Alfadley met with the director-general of the European Commission Environment Department, the global director for the World Bank Group’s Water Global Practice, and the deputy minister of the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge in Spain. He also engaged with representatives from the Netherlands' ministries of infrastructure and environment, and Singapore's Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.

Saudi's Global Water Initiative

During these discussions, Alfadley highlighted the objectives of the Global Water Organization. This initiative, launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, aims to ensure water abundance and promote collaborative efforts for a sustainable water future. Alfadley emphasized the importance of partnerships and international cooperation in addressing global water challenges.

Alfadley also showcased Saudi Arabia's advancements in water conservation, desalination technologies, and water management practices. These efforts align with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Officials from various countries acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s progress and leadership in global water initiatives.

Future Events

Alfadley discussed Saudi Arabia's preparations for hosting the 11th World Water Forum in Riyadh in 2027 under the theme "Action for a Better Tomorrow." He also mentioned preparations for the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), scheduled to take place in Riyadh from December 2 to 13 this year.

The 10th World Water Forum addressed several critical topics including water security and prosperity, water for humans and nature, disaster risk reduction and management, governance, cooperation, hydro-diplomacy, sustainable water finance, and knowledge and innovation.
