Parliamentary Diplomacy Advances As Shura Council Hosts Maldives People Majlis Speaker In Riyadh
Shura Council Speaker Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh held formal talks with Maldives People’s Majlis Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla in Riyadh, focusing on Shura Council Saudi-Maldives relations, strengthening parliamentary cooperation, and supporting wider bilateral ties between the two countries through an official visit led by a Maldivian parliamentary delegation.
During the discussions, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh outlined the Shura Council’s work mechanisms and legislative processes, stressing how parliamentary diplomacy can support Shura Council Saudi-Maldives relations, deepen political understanding, and promote cooperation that serves the mutual interests and priorities of both Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Maldives.

The session examined practical ways to enhance cooperation in multiple fields, with particular focus on the parliamentary sphere. Both sides explored future prospects to develop Shura Council Saudi-Maldives relations, increase coordination between the two assemblies, and build structured channels for consultation on regional developments and issues of concern to both countries.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on a range of topics of common interest. At the beginning of the session, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh welcomed Abdul Raheem Abdulla and the accompanying delegation, noting that Shura Council Saudi-Maldives relations are supported by leadership in both countries. The Speaker linked these ties to the wider partnership between Riyadh and Malé across political, economic, and social domains.
Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Al-Sheikh also referred to the comprehensive development renaissance in Saudi Arabia under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting its relevance for Shura Council Saudi-Maldives relations.
For his part, Abdul Raheem Abdulla expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality. The Maldives People’s Majlis Speaker said the visit reflects the depth of historical and fraternal ties, stressing that Shura Council Saudi-Maldives relations are an extension of long-standing cooperation between the two nations and their peoples.
Abdul Raheem Abdulla praised Saudi Arabia’s role as an important partner for the Maldives, noting the Kingdom’s steady support under different circumstances and its contribution to Maldivian development and growth. The official talks, held at the Shura Council headquarters in Riyadh at 17:57 local time, 14:57 GMT, formed part of Abdul Raheem Abdulla’s official visit to the Kingdom. The session confirmed a shared desire to advance Shura Council Saudi-Maldives relations, deepen parliamentary cooperation, and uphold the fraternal connection between the two brotherly peoples.
