Saudi-Malaysian Coordination Council's First Meeting Focuses On Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
The Saudi-Malaysian Coordination Council convened its inaugural meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh. Co-chaired by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and Malaysian Minister Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, the meeting marked a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations. The council aims to foster collaboration across various sectors, aligning with the aspirations of both nations' leaderships.
During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and expanding it into new areas. They emphasized the importance of establishing common positions on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest. The discussions underscored the necessity for ongoing support and development of joint coordination in all areas of cooperation.

The council's objectives include deepening collaboration and integration between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia through its committees. Following the meeting, two Memoranda of Understanding were signed. The first agreement involved mutual exemption from short-term visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, special, or official passports. This was signed by Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah for Saudi Arabia and Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan for Malaysia.
The second Memorandum focused on social development initiatives. It was signed by Vice Minister of Human Resources Dr. Abdullah Abuthnain representing Saudi Arabia and the Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs. These agreements signify a commitment to fostering closer ties between the two nations in various domains.
Attendees included notable figures such as Assistant Minister of Interior Dr. Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al-Falih and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati. Other key participants were Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for International Cooperation Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Amari and Undersecretary of Defense for Strategic Affairs Aviation Major General Salman Al-Harbi.
Future Prospects
The council chairpersons expressed anticipation for a second meeting to be scheduled at a mutually agreed time through the General Secretariat. They highlighted the importance of following up on recommendations and initiatives proposed by committee heads within their respective areas.
Representatives from Islamic, cultural, and social cooperation committees also attended the meeting. Their presence underscores the broad scope of collaboration envisioned by both countries through this council framework.
