Saudi Humanitarian Intervention Saves 70-year-old Yemeni Man In Socotra Within 12 Hours
Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen staff helped save a 70-year-old Yemeni patient at Socotra Hospital, after a vehicle ran over the patient in Socotra Governorate. Intensive coordination enabled a full medical response in under 12 hours, preventing the traffic accident injuries from becoming fatal.
The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen received a medical alert about the patient after the accident. The report described a very serious brain haemorrhage that threatened the patient’s life. Doctors considered the condition critical, and there was concern that any delay would reduce chances of survival.

Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jabir, general supervisor of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, instructed teams to provide every urgent medical need. The instructions covered specialised staff, equipment and medicines, so that treatment could take place inside Socotra Governorate without postponement or transfer delays.
Medical staff judged that flying the patient out of Socotra carried high medical risk. Instead, the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen arranged for a neurology consultant, a specialty not available in Socotra Governorate, to reach the island. Ground transport carried the consultant from Mukalla in Hadramout Governorate to Al-Mahara Governorate.
The journey then continued by air from Al-Ghaydah Airport to Socotra Airport, completing the transfer plan. At the same time, the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen secured the required equipment and medicines from Aden. The supplies were rushed to Socotra Hospital, where the neurology consultant and local team prepared for immediate intervention.
Socotra Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen Office Manager Mohammed Al-Yahya oversaw the case in real time once the consultant arrived. The medical procedure succeeded, and the patient’s condition stabilised after treatment. The operation highlighted the Kingdom’s support for health services in remote Yemeni areas, despite distance and logistical difficulties, as reported by SPA at 20:50 Local Time, 17:50 GMT, under reference 0041.
