Saudi Industry Minister Explores High-Tech Automotive Collaboration In China

Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef visited the Guangzhou Economic & Technological Development District (GETDD) during his official trip to China. The visit aimed to boost industrial cooperation across several key sectors. He was joined by Dr. Abdullah Al-Ahmari, Eng. Saleh Al-Sulami, and Eng. Majid Al-Argoubi.

Al-Khorayef toured Guangzhou MINO Equipment Co., Ltd., where he discussed potential collaboration in high-tech vehicle manufacturing with the company's vice president. This visit underscored the importance of developing advanced automotive technologies through international partnerships.

Saudi-China High-Tech Auto Talks

The minister also met with the chairman of Foton Motor, a company known for manufacturing commercial vehicles. Their discussions focused on joint initiatives to advance electric vehicles, hybrid technology, and other cutting-edge automotive innovations.

During his visit, Al-Khorayef engaged with the chairman of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC). They explored the possibility of forming a strategic partnership aimed at developing sustainable transportation solutions, reflecting a mutual interest in eco-friendly advancements.

Additionally, he visited Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holding Group (GIIHG) and held talks with the group's president about enhancing cooperation in the industrial sector and producing smart equipment. These discussions highlighted opportunities for mutual growth and technological exchange.

Insights into GETDD's Innovation and Strength

The GETDD tour provided Al-Khorayef with insights into one of China's top high-tech parks. Established in 1984, GETDD ranks second among 219 similar zones in overall strength and first in scientific and technological innovation. It is recognised globally for its contributions to high-tech advancements.

In Science Square’s main hall, Al-Khorayef was briefed on GETDD’s offerings related to knowledge exchange, capacity building best practices, and foreign investment incentives. The presentation showcased Guangzhou’s achievements in scientific and technological innovations within the industrial sector.

Reviewing National Industrial Strategy Sub-sectors

The minister reviewed sub-sectors of Saudi Arabia's National Industrial Strategy during his visits. This included examining incentives provided by the Kingdom to attract foreign investments and exploring ways to leverage advanced Chinese expertise in high-tech automotive manufacturing.

Al-Khorayef's visit also focused on exchanging expertise and best practices for capacity building and knowledge enhancement between Saudi Arabia and China. This initiative aims to foster stronger industrial ties and promote technological advancements within both nations.

The delegation accompanying Al-Khorayef included Dr. Abdullah Al-Ahmari, Assistant Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Planning and Development; Eng. Saleh Al-Sulami, Chief Executive of the National Industrial Development Center (NIDC); and Eng. Majid Al-Argoubi, Chief Executive of MODON.

This visit marks a significant step towards strengthening industrial cooperation between Saudi Arabia and China, paving the way for future collaborations in various high-tech sectors.
