Saudi Green Building Forum To Participate In COP30 In Brazil, Promoting Sustainability And Climate Justice

The Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF) is set to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025. This involvement underscores SGBF's role as a national body with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and accreditation to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

SGBF Secretary-General Eng. Faisal Al-Fadl explained that this approach signifies a shift in sustainable building philosophy. He stated, "Sufficiency does not mean limiting development; rather, it means achieving a balance between human needs and the planet’s capacity to provide resources, ensuring social equity and environmental protection."

SGBF to Attend COP30 in Brazil

This year, SGBF will focus on the principle of "Sufficiency Before Efficiency" in climate policies. The emphasis is on reducing resource demand at its origin before enhancing efficiency. This strategy aims to promote climate justice while balancing economic growth with environmental conservation.

The forum aims to foster international collaboration to develop sufficiency indicators and policies. This will be done in partnership with countries, international bodies, and both public and private stakeholders. Such efforts contribute towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Saudi Green Building Forum is a non-governmental organisation active in the Arab world. It collaborates with municipalities and housing authorities on environmental development, climate monitoring, desertification combatting, and biodiversity through its Saaf framework.

Inspired by Saudi Vision 2030, SGBF's participation reflects Saudi experts' contributions and national best practices supporting global sustainability efforts. The forum advances green building localisation and circular economy practices across the Arab region.

SGBF's initiatives are aligned with Saudi Vision 2030's goals for sustainability and green transformation. By participating in COP30, SGBF aims to showcase these practices on an international stage.
