The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and the Global Water Organization have taken a significant step forward in international development cooperation. Sultan Al-Marshad, CEO of SFD, and Dr. Fahad Abu Mouti, head of the founding team of the Global Water Organization, signed a memorandum today. This agreement aims to establish a framework for leveraging SFD's expertise in financing water projects globally, supporting sustainable development goals.
Al-Marshad highlighted the importance of this partnership in an SFD press release. He stated: "This memorandum reflects the Saudi Fund for Development's efforts over the past 50 years in boosting international cooperation in the field of water resource management and water security. This partnership will enhance the provision of innovative financing options to support water projects."

Dr. Abu Mouti emphasized the significance of this collaboration between the organization and the fund. He expressed optimism about future initiatives by stating, "we look forward to implementing projects and initiatives that contribute to achieving sustainable development in the field of water globally." The memorandum is seen as a crucial step toward expanding their cooperative efforts.
Since its inception in 1975, SFD has played a pivotal role in financing development projects related to water security across various developing nations. The fund has supported 147 projects and programs through developmental loans and grants exceeding $6 billion. These efforts have been instrumental in advancing global growth and prosperity.
The SFD's contributions extend beyond financial support; they have also been actively involved in constructing essential water infrastructure. As part of their initiatives, more than 8,800 water facilities have been drilled and equipped under the Saudi program for drilling wells and rural development in Africa. These actions align with broader goals to foster sustainable development worldwide.
This collaboration between SFD and the Global Water Organization underscores their commitment to addressing global water challenges. By pooling resources and expertise, they aim to create impactful solutions that benefit communities worldwide while promoting sustainable practices.
