Saudi–French Joint Ministerial Committee On AlUla Convenes To Enhance Bilateral Cooperation
The Saudi–French Joint Ministerial Committee on AlUla met in AlUla, led by Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan and French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati. The meeting included several ministers and senior officials from both countries. This gathering is part of the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and France, which began with an agreement on AlUla in April 2018.
The meeting was attended by key figures such as Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih, and CEO of the Royal Commission for AlUla Abeer Al-Akel. From France, attendees included Jean-Noël Barrot, Magali Cesana representing Eric Lombard, and Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Both nations emphasised their dedication to deepening this partnership, which serves as a global model for international collaboration based on mutual benefit and knowledge exchange. This cooperation supports development goals and enhances quality of life. Discussions highlighted the achievements of the bilateral partnership and explored future cooperation opportunities.
The session underscored significant joint investments, with the Royal Commission for AlUla investing over €2.2 billion through 400 French companies in sectors like construction, infrastructure, and public services. The partnership also extends into education, hospitality, and sports.
Efforts in education include introducing French language learning at the AlUla Languages Institute and scholarships for students to study in France. The Ferrandi Paris – AlUla Campus offers world-class hospitality programs. Equestrian development capacity-building was also highlighted to support hosting the 2026 World Endurance Championship.
Sustainable development projects are a shared focus, with initiatives like the AlUla Tramway and Sharaan Resort by Jean Nouvel. Investments in renewable energy, water, and mobility align with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to attract international investment while preserving cultural heritage.
Cultural Exchange Milestones
The inauguration of Villa Hegra Foundation marks a milestone as the first Saudi–French cultural centre in AlUla. It serves as a platform for artistic exchange and symbolises cultural collaboration between the two nations. This initiative further consolidates AlUla's position as a global destination for culture and creativity.
In their concluding remarks, both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening this partnership across cultural, educational, environmental, and economic fields. They aim to enhance cooperation further, reinforcing AlUla's status as a leading model for innovation and sustainable growth globally.
