Saudi Foreign Minister Discusses Europe's Strategic Options In The Middle East
Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in a discussion session at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) meetings in Madrid. The session, titled "Wars and Shadow Wars: What are Europe's Options in the Middle East?" focused on recent developments in Gaza and the need for an immediate ceasefire to facilitate humanitarian aid.
The Minister highlighted that the crisis in Gaza affects not only the Palestinian cause but also the entire region. He noted that it contributes to escalating tensions, particularly in southern Lebanon. "The situation in the Gaza Strip does not only affect the Palestinian cause alone, but the entire region and contributes to increasing escalation and intensity of tension," he stated.

Prince Faisal emphasized the necessity of international efforts to achieve a ceasefire. He pointed out that most of the global community supports a two-state solution as a lasting resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. However, he criticized their passive stance on issues undermining this solution, such as Israel's ongoing settlement expansion.
The Minister praised European countries, including Spain, for their support of the peace process and efforts towards a two-state solution. He urged them to condemn Israel's non-compliance with its commitments and consider stricter measures like sanctions against officials violating human rights. "The least that the European countries can do is condemn Israel's failure to abide by its commitments," he said.
He reiterated that Palestinians have an undeniable right to self-determination and deserve an internationally recognized independent state. This stance underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights on global platforms.
Yemen Conflict
Addressing Yemen's situation, Prince Faisal stressed continued support for political dialogue. He acknowledged that Yemen remains in a challenging state, especially economically. "We need to move to a better state because the situation in Yemen is still difficult," he added.
The discussion underscored Saudi Arabia's broader foreign policy objectives, focusing on regional stability and humanitarian concerns. By participating in such forums, Saudi Arabia aims to influence international policies towards achieving peace and security in conflict zones.
The session concluded with calls for more robust international actions to address these pressing issues effectively. The emphasis was on collaborative efforts to bring about sustainable solutions for long-standing conflicts in the Middle East.
